Are you looking to dive deeper into your Audi’s infotainment system? The Engineering Menu (commonly known as the Hidden Green Menu) in the MIB2 units is a treasure trove of technical data and advanced configurations. Whether you want to troubleshoot GPS issues or force a firmware update, unlocking this menu is the first step.
In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to gain access using the industry-standard VCDS and the enthusiast-favorite OBDeleven.
Table of Contents
Why Access the MIB2 Engineering Menu?
The MIB2 system (Modular Infotainment Platform 2) is the heart of Audi models produced between 2015 and 2020. By enabling Developer Mode, you can:
- Perform advanced system diagnostics.
- Manage internal storage and logs.
- Access the SWDL (Software Download) manual mode for custom updates.
- View real-time data from the MOST bus and tuner.
Precautions: This menu is intended for advanced users. Changing values at random can result in a non-responsive MMI unit. Always take a backup or a photo of your original settings before making changes.
Method A: Using OBDeleven (The Mobile Way)
OBDeleven makes it incredibly simple to toggle the Developer Mode on MIB2 units.
- Connect your OBDeleven device to the vehicle’s diagnostic port.
- Open the app and go to Control Units.
- Select Unit 5F (Information Electronics).
- Tap on Adaptation.
- Search for the channel named Developer mode.
- Slide the value to On.
- Write the changes (hold the green button).
- Reboot your MMI: Press and hold the Volume knob and the two toggle switches (NAV + MEDIA) simultaneously.
Method B: Using VCDS (The Professional Way)
If you prefer the classic Ross-Tech interface, follow these steps to modify the adaptation channels:
- Plug in your VCDS hex-cable and launch the software.
- Click Select under Control Modules, then choose 5F-Information Electr.
- Choose Adaptation – 10.
- In the search field, type Developer mode (or look for channel IDE02122).
- Change the “Stored Value” from Not Active to Active.
- Click Test, then Save.
- Exit the controller and perform a hard reset of the MMI system.
How to Trigger the Green Menu Screen
Even after it is “Enabled” via software, the menu remains hidden until you use the secret button sequence.
For Audi MIB2 (A4 B9, A5 F5, Q5 FY, Q7 4M):
- Push the NAV/MAP toggle switch UP and the MEDIA toggle switch DOWN at the exact same time.
- Hold them for at least 5 seconds.
- The screen will change to a green-themed interface.

Summary
Unlocking the Hidden Green Menu is an essential skill for any Audi DIYer. While OBDeleven is faster for those on the go, VCDS offers the precision required for professional workshops.
